Sawai Mansingh Medical College, Rajasthan's largest and one of the top medical colleges in North India, celebrated its Platinum Jubilee on the 4th and 5th of March.
Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Shri Ashok Gehlot was the Chief Guest and Shri Parsadi Lal Meena, Health Minister of Rajasthan was the Guest of Honour.
The chief minister, while addressing the audience, said that “SMS medical college started in 1947 and has emerged as a reputed institution in the medical sector in 75 years. The state government is working to open new departments and provide the necessary equipment and resources.”
Shri Gehlot said that “the government is soon bringing the right to the health bill. Education and health are the work of public service and not a business therefore the bill should not be protested. Private hospitals are also doing praiseworthy work in the health sector. The state government will clear all reasonable doubts regarding the bill.”
A series of events including cultural programmes, a sports carnival, orations by eminent personalities, a literature festival, a cyclotron, a science and photography exhibition and fashion shows were organized as part of the celebrations.
Eminent personalities from the medical field gave keynote addresses at the event and discussed topics ranging from Infertility Management, current trends in medical education, medico-legal perspectives, futuristic approach in medicine, and life beyond medical sciences.
The Department of Posts released a stamp to commemorate SMS Medical College’s platinum jubilee.
Health minister Shri Prasad Lal Meena said that “the achievements of SMS medical college in 75 years have been unique. The students of this college have proved their medical talent all over the world. World-class health services are being provided in SMS hospital.”
Dr Sudhir Bhandari, vice-chancellor of Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS), said, “SMS Hospital attached to SMS Medical College is providing excellent and free health services to the patients. Every year 60 to 70 lakh people receive free treatment services in OPD and 5 to 6 lakh people in IPD in SMS Hospital.”
SMS Medical College principal Dr Rajeev Bagarhatta, who was also the organizing chairman, said that “new departments are being opened constantly in SMS medical college. A different identity has been made for the SMS hospital due to excellent management during corona and successful implementation of welfare schemes such as Mukhyamantri Chiranjeevi Swasthya Bima Yojana.”
Distinguished alumni awards were given to doctors for their commendable services in the field of health.
MLA Shri Rafeek Khan and Shri Jitendra Singh, former MP Shri Karan Singh Yadav, former MLA Shri Chandrashekhar Baid, Jaipur Heritage Mayor Smt Munesh Gurjar, medical education principal secretary Shri T Ravikanth, Head of the Paediatrics Department Dr Ashok Gupta, senior professor, cardiology Dr S. M. Sharma, National Medical Council Chairman, Dr Suresh Sharma and a large number of students and alumni were present on this occasion.
