The Haryana government has proposed to include one year of Ayurvedic studies in the MBBS program. But according to experts, this is not possible because the curriculum is governed by NMC and no state can make any changes to it.
Every year, out of roughly 90,000 Indian medical graduates, nearly 12,000 appear for the USMLE for higher studies, and nearly 4,000 students clear this test. But if they study allopathy for four years, and ayurveda for the fifth, it’s unlikely that the US or any other country will allow medicos to appear for their tests.
The best way to promote Ayurveda is by sanctioning funds for research in that system rather than forcing the MBBS students to join those subjects.
Meanwhile, the health minister is of the opinion that there should be an integration of all the systems of medicine.
