The 60th National Conference of the Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP) took place from 11th-12th February 2023 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The theme of the conference was “Workout for Fit India”.
The annual event was witnessed by Physiotherapy delegates from all over the country and also some international guests from the profession. The conference was virtually addressed by Prime Minister Modi, who emphasized the importance of physiotherapists during the time of disasters in the rehabilitation of the injured. The Prime Minister said that in the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsava, Physiotherapists received much-awaited recognition as a profession as the government brought the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professionals Bill which recognizes the contribution of physiotherapists in the nation's healthcare system. The government has also added physiotherapists to the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission network making it easier for them to reach patients. The Prime Minister also touched upon growing opportunities for physiotherapists in the environment of the Fit India Movement and Khelo India. Shri Modi also requested the profession to develop ways of video consulting and telemedicine. He said this can be useful in situations like the earthquake in Turkiye where a large number of physiotherapists are needed and Indian physiotherapists can help via mobile phones.
